During the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ford and UAW took swift action, producing crucial personal protective equipment (PPE) like respirators, face shields, medical gowns, and ventilators. This initiative was dubbed Ford's Project Apollo. Volunteers worked tirelessly around the clock to meet the urgent demand for these essential items.
To date, Ford has manufactured an impressive tens of millions of pieces of PPE, including 100 million face masks, 20 million face shields, 50,000 patient ventilators, over 32,000 powered air-purifying respirators, and 1.4 million washable isolation gowns.
“This is such a critical time for America and the world. It is a time for action and cooperation. By coming together across multiple industries, we can make a real difference for people in need and for those on the front lines of this crisis,” said Bill Ford, Ford’s executive chairman. “At Ford, we feel a deep obligation to step up and contribute in times of need, just as we always have through the 117-year history of our company.”
